Beantown when you venture afield. This shirt goes great with your favorite
Red Sox or Celtics ballcap, and is sure to start conversations wherever you go.
According to Chris:
My Boston experience began in the summer between my Junior
and Senior year in College. I had done an internship in Washington DC in
June and July, and spent August visiting friends, including 2 weeks at my friend
Tig's fraternity house he was spending the summer in. A total blast. Saw
all the sights and took the "T" all over. Couldn't wait to go back!
Over the years, I ended up back in Boston many times, for work, a girlfriend,
and in '07 and '08 I visited my very best Boston friend, Heidi, who is like,
Miss Boston, and we went to all these other sights and another game at Fenway
(See "I Left My Heart in Fenway Park" and "Cape Cod, It's One Big Clambake" for
more info) -- anyway, what I gather is: Bostonians are incredibly proud of their
city and think it is totally and absolutely THE place to be, and, ahem that it
is far superior in every way possible to _ew _ork. I'm a big history buff
too, so I really enjoyed all the Revolutionary era sights, the Freedom Trail,
Faneuil Hall, Old North Church, etc. A few things I took note of over the
years and just think are funny. There's a T Station called ALEWIFE.
What the heck kind of a name is ALEWIFE? (A fish, I'm told) Also, I have
actually been to BRAINTREE. What a name for a town. I just picture a
tree, filled with Brains hanging from the branches like pieces of shriveled
fruit. It's a nice place, but I would just never live there because of
that.
Boston-wise, I also think of my bud Tony F and his New
England accent, Harold and his Red Sox cap, and how I got to walk a girl "home
along Mt. Vernon Street" - which is a line from one of my favorite obscure 90s
songs, "Kitchen" by The Lemonheads. (Great song,
great
album, "It's A Shame About Ray") I also like the Pilgrim Hat signs for
the Mass Pike, I like Honey Dew Donuts,
I love Storrow Drive
(the room I crashed in at Tig's place overlooked Storrow Drive and I went to
sleep to the sound of the cars all night), I know the
NECCO stands for New England
Confectionery Company, and I still call I-95 128. And man, did I love Cheers.
I'm pretty sure it was fictional, but I loved those guys. And The Departed
rocked. Oh, and 2 Boston bands, in my opinion, produced the 2 greatest rock
debut albums of all time,
The Cars,
The Cars and
Boston,
Boston.
I could write a novel here, but I'll stop. Boston, I
like you alot. And Boston Girls, I love you. From what it sounds
like, it's great to be a Boston Girl.
