Washington DC -- Where it All Happens -- and what happens inside the Beltway,
stays inside the Beltway -- sometimes. If you are a fan of the Nation's
Capital, if DC makes it happen for you, this is the t-shirt for you... the DC
Lover. Retro design features DC logo with the "capital star" right in the
middle, all surround by the beltway.
According to Chris:
I lived in Washington D.C. for 2 1/2 months when I worked as
a Congressional Intern the summer between Junior and Senior Year of College.
My best friend from home was working there too, the drinking age was 18, I was
living in Georgetown, and we had a lot of fun. We weren't getting paid
though, so I had about $800 to get me through the whole summer. So, our
typical night out was to go to the liquor store, buy 2 six-packs of Milwaukee's
Best for $1.59 each, sit and drink them on my patio, then go out to a bar with a
free happy hour buffet, get ONE drink, eat all the free bar food we could, and
repeat as necessary. Ah, the good old days. But wait, that's not
what YOU think of when you think of Washington, DC? Well, there was more
to it than that! I did get to pretty much see the whole city, every
monument, every bar, every point of interest, and I loved riding the Metro in to
the Capital every morning. What I remembered too -- and mind you, I am
from FLORIDA -- was how unbelievably hot and humid it was there in the summer.
But I really thought DC was an amazingly fun and interesting city, and for me at
least, it was the center of my world for one crazy summer.
As for the shirt, we knew it had to have the Beltway on it,
and any chance I get to put a highway sign on a shirt, I love it. As I
mentioned in "Baltimore Girl" -- on our family trips from Florida to New York,
the excitement really began for me when we reached DC. From an early age,
Dad let me be the Official Navigator, the official handler of the Rand McNally
Atlas and AAA Triptiks. Once we got to Washington, was the first time
there were really any decisions to make... go left on the Beltway? go
right on the Beltway? Go right and then take the Baltimore Washington
Parkway / 295? Go straight and take our chances? Ah, it was
exciting. Years later, when I was in DC a while for work, I found driving
on the Beltway during rush hour to be far, far less interesting and exciting.
But I still enjoyed being in Washington, and if this shirt had existed way back
when, it would've been perfect for me!
