Hollywood Girl - Want More? Buy The Rights. The
Hollywood Girl T-Shirt features the faded background of the US 101 shield, The
Hollywood Freeway, and the message of the tee in typewriter font across the
front of the shirt. As of this writing, Hollywood is still not a real
place. Sure, there's West Hollywood, and there's the Hollywood Sign, but
for now Hollywood is just a section of LA and a state of mind. I'm sure
it's been at least 50 years since the last starlet was discovered in a malt shop
near Hollywood & Vine, but as far as America and the World are concerned,
Hollywood will live forever. And the Hollywood Girl Tee is perfect for
anyone who wants to be, or already is, a star.
According to Chris:
As I learned from naivete and bitter experience, no one, and
I mean, no one, wanted to read my screenplay. That was over 10 years ago,
and after that, my rose-colored view of Hollywood considerably darkened. I
first saw Hollywood visiting a friend in college in LA, and he quickly disabused
me of the notion that "actual" Hollywood was glamorous, or was where movies were
made or movie stars hung out. Him: "All those things are filmed in the
Valley now." Me: "What's the Valley?" Ah, a lot has changed since
then. And, I happened to be living in LA when the
Hollywood and
Highland Center opened, and the Kodak Theatre opened up where the Oscars
moved the next year, and my friend Kristin introduced me to some of the bars and
restaurants around Hollywood that weren't too "clubby" for me, and I actually
did see Cuba Gooding Jr, drinking in a bar, and I realized, that now again,
there really was a Hollywood.
PS - A quick note, when I lived in LA for 4 months, I did see
a fair number of celebs. In no particular order, here is a partial list of the names and
places:
-
Cuba Gooding - Drinking at the Pig and Whistle in Hollywood
-
David Duchovny - Starbucks in Brentwood
-
Julia Roberts - In her SUV Driving down Sunset Blvd (you
were there, Rosa!)
-
Owen Wilson - Eating Dinner at an Italian Restaurant near
Sunset & the PCH. Also, bizarrely, and this is the absolute truth, at that
same dinner at another table, I saw
This Woman, who played the
girl in the Seinfeld episode George was dating who he thought was throwing up
in the bathroom every meal, SHE was actually ON A DATE at the restaurant I was
at, and DID GET UP and go to the bathroom during the meal. Unbelievable
-
Tracey Ullman - at a Starbucks in Santa Monica
-
I also saw
This Guy at the Borders
Bookstore in Santa Monica - he is in a million commercials and was one of
Elaine's Co-Workers on Seinfeld. I also saw the guy who played Elaine's
boss at the Santa Monica Public Library
-
Elizabeth Berkley - In a restaurant window while jogging
down Montana Avenue. Also saw Morgan Freeman that same day dining on
Montana Ave.
-
Peter MacNicol - At the Trader Joe's in West Hollywood
-
I also saw
This Guy who was on Caroline in the City, at Patrick's Roadhouse on the
PCH. He was on rollerblades. Also, I saw
This Guy who
played the Phone Repairman on "Alice" and I sat in the same row as
This Guy at a movie.
Hey, it's easy to spot A-Listers!

Finally, my best celeb encounter was when I was at dinner a
few years earlier in Studio City at
Mexicali -- dining across
the room was none other than
John Ashton,
the belovedly chubby, cantankerous actor who played Sergeant Taggart in The
Beverly Hills Cops movies (Judge Reinhold's Partner). Though advised not
to, I marched right up to him in the middle of dinner, he was with his
girlfriend/wife/date, whatever, and I said "Excuse Me, Mr. Ashton? I'm a
big fan. I loved you in Midnight Run, Some Kind of Wonderful, and
Beverly Hills Cop. I'm visiting from Chicago and I wanted to get your
autograph." And, he was super-nice, told me he used to live in Chicago,
etc, (he was REALLY drunk), and the girl he's with was giggling the whole time
and said, "John, I can't believe somebody KNOWS you and actually WANTS YOUR
AUTOGRAPH!" Anyway, I still treasure the postcard he signed.
